The biggest local college offers many degree options to those preparing for Phoenix nursing jobs.

Now is a great time to get involved in the healthcare industry, which has continued to grow, despite the state of the local or national economy. And in the future there will be a strong need for qualified workers to fill open nursing positions as many older employees begin to retire.

Arizona State University is a well-known college located in Tempe, a nearby suburb of Phoenix. The school boasts several nursing-related certificate and degree programs for both undergraduate and graduate students. Keep in mind that after graduation most employers will require you to undergo employee background checks.

ASU’s undergraduate nursing degree programs include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing – Students in this program will study theory and clinical courses, and once they graduate, students will be qualified to take the national licensing exam for registered nurses. Students are divided into those taking critical tracking courses and those who have advanced to the Upper Division Nursing program. The program can be taken in a year-round format and completed in 16 months, or taken with summer breaks and completed in 24 months.
  • RN-BSN Entry Option – This program allows students with an associate degree or nursing diploma to complete the higher-level training required to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

The graduate degree programs offered include:

  • Doctor of Nursing Practice – This program focuses on transforming the delivery of healthcare and increasing the ability to design, evaluate and improve healthcare delivery methods. Students must first obtain a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or master’s degree with an advanced practice specialty. Once in the program, students will complete a total of 1170 clinical hours and complete an Evidence-Base Mentoring Applied Project.
  • Master of Science in Community Health – This program gives students the theoretical and practical foundations needed for a career in community or public health nursing in either the public or private sector. After completing the program, students will be eligible to take the American Nurses Credentialing Center exam for national certification.
  • Master of Science in Nurse Education – This degree program prepares students for a career in nurse education and qualifies them to take the National League for Nursing Certification Exam. Students typically choose a specific concentration for this 38 credit-hour course. A 15 credit-hour version of this course culminating in a graduate certificate also is available.
  • PhD in Nursing & Health Innovation – Students with a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science can enroll in this program to prepare for a career in health policy, education or research. The degree program offers a highly-individualized set-up with an emphasis on strong faculty mentors.

ASU also offers many graduate certificate programs, including:
