How Many Internships Should You Apply For ?

29 08 2008

A long weekend is approaching. College Students, get to your computers and start looking into internships for the Fall. I know that the California schools start in a few weeks – so when you have some downtime over the weekend scan the internships on www.quarterlife.com/intern. If we don’t have what you are looking for shoot me an email at internqueen@quarterlife.com and I’ll try to aim you in the right direction. We have some great partner-sites that we are working with. Sites like Entertainmentcareers.net, USAIntern.com, and InternWeb.com have some great resources as well.

New Opportunities !! If you are a writer-at-heart check out the internship at MORE MAGAZINE, and THE NIBBLE ONLINE MAG, both in New York City. Another cool opportunity for writers is The Irene Skolnick Literary Agency (also in NYC) – great for those who want to go into publishing. For potential interns who want MUSIC INTERNSHIPS check out the UFO/Invasion Group internship posting and the CLEAR CHANNEL Internship. We are fully stocked on Entertainment Internships – so be sure to check out the ENTIRE list. Remember, if they are up there – they are still looking for interns.

I had lots of students asking me how many internships they should apply for today….My answer is, for the Fall Semester apply for at least 5 internships and then wait about one full week. If you haven’t heard from any companies after one week I’d apply to five more. Companies tend to move faster with hiring interns for the Fall. Interns are harder to get because of everyone’s crazed schedules. I never reccomend applying for only one internship – Especially when that one internship is at a popular company.

Have a wonderful Labor Day Weekend – Be Safe – Think Internships!

Internship Advice From the Intern Queen – And New Internships!

28 08 2008

Hello Everyone and happy Wednesday ! I hope everyone is having a great day. Thank you so much to everyone who came out to ARSENAL last night in Santa Monica for the Ed2010 event. We had a great turn out and discussed the ins and outs of working in New Media.

I got tons of resumes in today from potential fall internship candidates ! Very exciting ! Please continue to spread the word to your classmates and friends that they can apply for the internships they want through our site – and its completely FREE.

I wanted to post some questions that I’m answering for my “Q & A with the Intern Queen” on the EntertainmentCareers.net Internship Section…here goes:

Q: Hi I’m a Junior in High School and was wondering if it is possible for kids my age to get internships or if they usually only let college students in. If we can’t get any internships what are some other options for us to get experience in the entertainment business?

A:  Kudos to you for even asking me about internships while you are still in highschool! Internships are becoming more and more popular for highschool students. If your school gets out early in the afternoon than you might be able to put in a few afternoons per week at an internship. This is really up to the company. I would reccomend applying for a few different positions and clearly indicating in your resume and cover letter that you are in highschool but extremely passionate about the entertainment business and ready to take on a full load of school and your internship. Best of luck and keep me posted on what happens! Check our some of our opportunities on http://www.quarterlife.com/intern as well as the opportunities on Entertainment Careers.

Q: Are there any internship programs for non-students who would like to explore other career opportunities?

A: Some companies do have special guidelines for non-students to enter their programs. However, most internships in the entertainment industry are unpaid so companies feel that they must compensate students with college credit. You will have a better chance finding opportunities with Paid internships because the company will feel like they are giving something back to you in return for your hardwork. Best of luck. And search for paid internships on the Quarterlife site at http://www.quarterlife.com/intern.

In New Internship Opportunities, I have some great ones for all of you internship – hungry students! Today we posted the following internships on http://www.quarterlife.com/intern

  • BENDERSPINK INTERNSHIP
  • MARIE CLAIRE ADVERTISING INTERNSHIP
  • POLARIS ENTERTAINMENT INTERNSHIP

  • OUT TRAVELER MAGAZINE INTERNSHIP

So get online and start applying asap !! Email with your everyday Internship Needs !

More Internships for College Students !!

27 08 2008

I hope everyone had a wonderful summer – and for all of you students that had a college internship – give yourself a hand! Keep in mind that Fall Internships are right around the corner. Most Fall Internships start about two weeks after your classes start and run through the end of the Fall Semester (December-ish). So if you don’t already have a solid Fall Internship – it might be something to look into. Please email me at internqueen@quarterlife.com if you have any questions regarding Fall Internships.

The Quarterlife Internship Program currently has approx 140 internships posted. Right now most of our internships are in Entertainment, Magazines, and Web Companies. Yesterday, I added internships at US WEEKLY Magazine, Working Mother Magazine, IMAX Corporation, Anchor Bay Entertainment, Overture Films, Thruline Entertainment, Intrepid Pictures, and a Universal Pictures Development Internship – These are perfect for film students ! I hope that you all visit the site – check out the listings that interest you and email me with your resumes. I look forward to going through them and sending them to my team of Internship Coordinators at each company.

FALL INTERNSHIP ADVICE: Don’t think your town/city has “cool” enough places to intern ?  Think Again! Having a fall internship on your resume is something that can automatically help you land your fancy summer internship opportunity. If you are interested in magazines – find a local magazine to intern with for a few days during the fall. Big companies look for local experience. So get on it and get something local and great for the Fall!

QUARTERLIFE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM – INTERNSHIP ADVICE – FREE INTERNSHIPS!

8 08 2008

The launch of our intern pages was today and it went very well. The internships and opportunities pages seem to be well-recieved by our users. I hope that everyone tells all of their friends about the wonderful opportunities we have. My goal is to place all of you in amazing internships and to give these great companies wonderful interns! If we work together in our creative community, I’m sure we can make this happen. The more response we get, the more companies we can add – this will help make us a solid resource for “Everything Intern”.

Today I’m adding some great companies like GK Films, Sony Digital, and more ! Check our listings to see what is new with the Quarterlife Internship Program. I’ll work late tonight to find even more great opportunities for students!

AUGUST 1st 2008

Welcome to the Quarterlife Internship Program Powered by The Intern Queen – that’s me! I’m so excited to tell you all about the different features and opportunities we are putting together for you. First off, when you go to our page you will see a section filled with Internship Listings. Click on the listings that interest you, read the information on the company, and then email me with your resume attached. If you need a cover letter or additional materials I will email you back and instruct you what to send me. I’ll let you know when I receive your materials and we will stay in contact about the internship. I will let you know as soon as any acceptance or rejection letters come in. If you have ANY questions about your internship – please email me at internqueen@quarterlife.com and I’ll answer all of your questions as soon as possible.

We are launching the site on Monday with over 60 internship listings. Because we are brand new, most of the listings are entertainment related (that’s our field) and many are in Los Angeles and New York areas. We are NOT limited to these areas or to this field. We are working hard every day to expand our range and bring you more companies in more cities across America. Keep checking back with our site and if there is a specific area you’d like us to work more on – email me all of your suggestions.

Interested in publishing ? Check out our fall internships with several different magazines. We currently have listings from Good HouseKeeping, Unique Homes, GQ, Rolling Stone, I Do For Brides, and more.

Want to make movies ? We are extremely happy with the entertainment listings that we have ready for you. Find companies like Universal, Sony Pictures Television, The Weinstein Company, The Donnors’ Company, Lionsgate, and more !

Also, for our launch I interviewed internship coordinators from a few different companies and even an intern or two ! Check that out in the INTERVIEWS section. I’ve also been recording some great Internship Advice in a VLOG format that is available HERE.

Keep your thoughts, comments, suggestions coming my way – I’m very excited to hear them all. And most importantly – if you know ANYONE looking for an Internship or looking for interns – send them to the Intern Queen.

Have a great weekend and I’ll see you on Monday for our launch !
